How to Deal with Feeling Unwell
There are many times when an individual, without being actually sick, just generally is feeling unwell. Without being to quite put their finger on what might be wrong, they simply know that they don’t feel like they normally do. There can be many reasons for this type of malaise.
Our bodies are finely tuned machines most of the time; operating with quiet efficiency in ways that we are generally not even aware. While sitting on the couch watching a movie or sporting events, our digestive system is continually working within us to disperse nutrients and minerals from the food that we eat to the areas of the body that put them to work for us. Our respiratory system is doggedly working to keep us breathing, and our cardiovascular system keeping blood coursing through our veins, throughout every minute of every day.
From time to time, something goes awry in this normal automatic process. It could be the effects from some type of bacteria or virus; it could be a result of a person exerting more physical activity than normal, or it could be an issue weighing heavy on the mind. All that is known by the individual is that they just don’t feel quite right, and usually doesn’t know why. Typical symptoms that could be experienced are exhaustion, lack of energy, lethargy, discomfort or being on edge among others.
There are a number of reasons that this incidence of feeling unwell can occur. If the feeling lingers on for only a day or so, the feeling could be the result of being subconsciously stressed from work issues or family problems, or just general anxiety. It is not uncommon for emotional problems to transpose into physical ailments. When a dilemma weighs heavily on someone’s mind without being dealt with, it affects our very stature; many people unconsciously stiffen as they mentally wrestle with whatever issues they have. The tautness of the muscles causes the body to react with discomfort, achiness and fatigue. Sleep is also detrimentally affected; when unresolved problems remain on the mind when we go to bed, restful sleep is impossible. Without good rest, the body soon suffers exhaustion. The best solution for this is to deal with the stress or emotional issues so that your mental state can relax and the body can return to normal.
Anytime that bacteria or viruses invade the human body, the immune system jumps into action to protect our body’s systems. All of the resources our body has to battle the invasion are focused on eliminating the threat of infection by rushing to the source of the problem. With all efforts concentrated on isolating the bacteria or virus, often feelings of lethargy and listlessness will set in. This is due to the fact that normal activities of the body are put on the back burner while the body addresses important health threats. Once the threat is eliminated, normal automatic responses will return which will end the issue of feeling unwell.
Everybody has a day when they simply just overdo activities. Perhaps it is a special home improvement project, or a special occasion that incurs additional physical exertion. Whatever the situation may be, the activity may seem effortless at the time it is being carried out, but the following day, the body responds with feelings of muscle tiredness and lethargy. This is a normal reaction of muscles that are asked to produce more energy than they are used to, requiring some time for recovery.
An important thing to remember when feeling unwell is that it is a common occurrence when lasting only a day or two. Taking it easy and allowing the feeling to pass naturally may be all that is needed. When the feeling lasts longer than this, it could be indicative of an underlying medical issue that needs to be addressed with a doctor.
